Resonant Frequency Smasher
“Dissonance before moments of harmony makes the harmony sound beautiful. Just as harmony and dissonance exist side by side in music, life is the same. Because harmony is preceded by dissonance, that’s why we think life’s beautiful.”
The Electro-Faustus EF116 Infektor is our take on the classic ring modulator. A ring mod is an effects unit that combines the input signal with a carrier frequency to create inharmonic, metallic, and robotic tones. This results in a unique, often experimental sound that can range from subtle tremolo-like effects to chaotic, bell-like dissonance.
Here’s how the key controls function:
Frequency: Determines the pitch of the modulating oscillator, affecting the harmonic complexity and perceived tonality of the effect.
Cutoff: Acts as a filter (typically low-pass) to tame high-frequency artifacts, shaping the overall tone and reducing harshness.
Resonance: Emphasizes frequencies around the cutoff point, adding a more pronounced peak to the filter response and enhancing the harmonic texture.
